LUDIC PROXY: FUKUSHIMA
reimagines the second act of Ludic Proxy for a digital platforms with an intimate conversation between two sisters from Fukushima, Japan, four years after the devastating earthquake and nuclear disaster. The two negotiate their differing belief systems as they navigate a day in the life near the exclusion zone -- while the audience votes on what one of the sisters says and does through the course of the play, thereby shaping the mind-bending and harrowing story and outcome of the play.
Below I discuss the origins of the project.
Ludic Proxy: Fukushima is written & directed by Aya Ogawa, presented by Japan Society in association with The Play Company and features Yuki Kawahisa and Saori Tsukada with voiceover by Jackie Katzman, stage manager Mariko Takizawa, lighting design and director of photography Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, editor & technical director Takaaki Ando, scenic design Jian Jung, sound design Michael Kiley, costume design Loren Shaw, props master & assistant set design Brian Bernhard, lighting associate Christina Tang and line producer John Del Gaudio.
Above is a recording of the post-show Q&A with Japan Society Artistic Director Yoko Shioya, on March 11, 2021.
